The tournament from July 4 has several Main Event champion
While many people spent their day to make the barbecue on their balconies to celebrate July 4, there were 873 people to spend this day in the Amazon Room at the Rio for the day 1 B of Main Event of World Series of Poker.
873 is a player drop when you consider that in 2008, the number of players was in 1158.
Several professionals, including the will champions had decided to start the event.Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, Carlos Mortensen, Doyle Brunson, Chris Ferguson, Jim Bechtel, and Amarillo Slim hoped all survive this day to win an another bracelet.
Unfortunately for Brunson and Moneymaker, their day ended quickly. Moneymaker with a pair of 10 met a pair of ACEs for him to go quickly reach any barbecue. Brunson, after being cold deck for a long time, saw his set of 3 getting beat by a straight on the turn to eliminate at the 3rd level of the day.
Even if Doyle was out, there was still 2 Brunson in the event by what his son Todd and daughter Pamela were still present. Todd already has a bracelet with his name and would like to make his first final table in a Main Event.
Other champions began their day July 4: Jason Young, Mike Matusow, Erik Seidel, Alex Kravchenko, David Pham, Bill Edler, Thor Hansen, Burt Boutin, Hoyt Corkins and Barry Greenstein. Apart from Pham, all above mentioned players are always the race.
Other notable players at this event are Ralph Perry, Fabrice Soulier, Mike Caro, Dustin Woolf, Barny Boatman, Bruno Fitoussi, Joe Sebok, Shaun Deeb and Juha Helppi. 684 on survived to this day and will continue their race to a bracelet. These players will return on July 7, with players who have survived day 1A to day 2.
The unofficial leader of this day chip is Brandon Demes which has 140,000 in chips. Fabrice Soulier and Joe Sebok also are near the top with respectively 98,000 and 75,000 chips.
