869,000 listeners on average were faithful to the position each issue of the 2009 WSOP. This year, the series attracted 737,000 listeners on average according to tvbythenumbers.com figures a disappointment for ESPN.
With respect to the final table, the audience has also declined.
Last year, the final table of the Main Event of the WSOP drew 2.1 M listeners. This year, always according to tvbythenumbers.com, is estimated at 1.5 M the number of listeners, a decrease of 26%.
No one is sure yet of the exact reasons for this decline. Probably several factors are involved, a little later than year dissemination from the final table (10 PM instead of 9 PM).
The WSOP have signed a contract to broadcast at ESPN until 2018.
