Earlier this week, a single tweet has triggered debate. Randy Murfin addressing Jack Effel and Daniel Negreanu application [translation]: "is anyone else concerned, backpacks and the bombs at the WSOP"?
Following this question, a thread on the forums of 2 + 2 has even been opened.
This question follows of course the recent attacks in the Boston Marathon.
In short, two questions are asked:
1 - Should we ban backpacks?
2 - Should be systematically searched everyone?
Following this debate (search or not everyone), Seth Palansky, WSOP communications vice-president, has been reassuring. According to him, there is no threat against the WSOP.
He explains: "we have not received any information that there is material to worry or threat against the WSOP where the place where they occur." We take the issue of security very seriously and will take all necessary measures to ensure that our guests, players and employees are all protected as best as we can without unnecessarily affecting the comfort of people (...) We want to remind everyone that the search of property or persons is a measure commonly used in large scale events. We we fold in addition to the requirements of safety dictated by any local, State or national authority".
Should be systematically searched everyone who enters the Rio Hotel & Casino at the WSOP? Does it help to soothe the paranoia of most concerned? The other hand, as it is engraved at the foot of the Statue of liberty in New York (quote from Benjamin Franklin): "Those who are willing to sacrifice essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety".
